5 Nights in New Orleans: 4 Eats

My motto?
Travel with your stomach!

The best way to experience any city is its food. Food is part of a culture and shows so many parts of the people it originates from as well as the area. Good food + good people = the best of memories! Try it all and you'll find everything that gives you a foodie passion.

Café du Monde:
Perhaps one of the most well-known café's in New Orleans for beignets, Café du Monde did not disappoint. For only $2.73 you can get 3 freshly-fried beignets with all the powder sugar you can dream of. Not to mention they have a wonderful Iced and Frozen Café au Lait to combat the heat in the summers. All seating is outdoor, so it might get a little warm, but not to fret, you can always take it to go.

Palace Café:
A charming restaurant right off of Canal Street, the Palace Café is nothing short of a charmer: men in business suits, women in dresses and waiters with ties. The food is just as charming as the atmosphere it is served in. One particular favorite is the Temperature Lunch (served Monday - Friday) where the price of the meal chosen by the chef is yesterday's high (96 degrees = $9.60). My personal favorite dish was the Shrimp Tchefuncte and the Gumbo Ya-Ya, both of which are classic Creole dishes. For dessert I indulged in a Bananas Foster that came with a show of its own, cooked in front of your table with all the heat ;)

Haydel's Bakeshop:
This is one of those unexpected finds. After browsing vintage stores on Magazine St. I stopped at this small bakery for a browse. The key lime tarte I chose ended up being a huge hit and is on of the best I've tasted. Take a little break and stop off at the Bakeshop if you're in the area.

The Ruby Slipper Cafe:
A feast of all feasts with every dreamy breakfast item you could imagine. There is a handful of these throughout New Orleans and I know just the reason. They have started as a local business and continued that with their places around the city. I ate way too much at this breakfast spread with no regrets. On my menu (and eventually table) for breakfast: Creamy Vanilla Spice Latte, Croque Madame, Seasonal French Toast (cherry something or other), The Costa Rican and Bam Bam Biscuit. EVERYTHING was phenomenal! The latte made me want to take it with me into Fall, the french toast did everything for my sweet tooth, the Croque Madame with a side of the best slaw I have had was the perfect savory, the bacon on the Bam Bam was unique in all its candied glory, and the Costa Rican had every touch of a perfect sampler of flavors. Please don't miss the chance to visit this incredible place!
