A BIG Change!!!

After waiting a couple months to make a decision, I decided to get balayage! I am so so happy with my decision and I'm even thinking about going lighter at some point. I thought I would go over what I had done in case any of you are wanting to get highlights or balayage.

First things first, not everybody's hair takes to color the same way. Before this I had virgin hair, meaning that it was never dyed before. Virgin hair takes better to dye and hair lighteners because there is no extra product that has to be lifted. My hair lifted really well, probably 3-4 shades from my natural color. My stylist used an 8 toner (from the choices of 7,8, or 9) to add an ashier tone instead o the more caramel-colored one that I had.

The bottom layer of my hair is all my natural color, but the top has balayage. I love this because it adds dimension plus it looks gorgeous when you curl it. It doesn't go all the way to the roots, but it's very close. This way when my hair grows out I can keep it for longer and just have the blonde bits towards my ends. Everything looks so natural which is nice for a first timer with hair color. I haven't had any problem with my hair looking damaged or feeling any less soft than usual. Your hair will show more signs of damage the more you dye it, but typically it doesn't the first couple of times.

Since hair color fades over time, I only wash mine every 2-3 days. This will help prolong the life of my color by not washing it out. To help keep my hair fresh I use the Batiste Dry shampoo after I have a shower at night. When I do wash my hair, I use the Clairol Shimmer Lights Blonde/Silver shampoo + conditioner. I love these two together because they help tone down brassiness as well as keep my color looking fresh. I don't use the blonde shampoo every time I wash. On the other occasions, which is every other wash, I use my normal shampoo and conditioner. Both of which are by the brand OGX. I'm really happy with the hair care routine I have now. It has taken a little while to adjust to not washing my hair everyday, but I think it has paid off. Another tip is to use a hair mask, leave-in conditioner, hair oil, or detangler at night to help keep you hair healthy and strong.
